Help Please!!!

I broke a timing chain in my 1300 Escort & ended up with banana shaped pushrods. Instead of repairing the damage I decided to upgrade to a 1600cc 711M motor. The guy I bought it off told me it was out of a 1600cc van. As I had an unleaded head in my 1300 with GT valves I decided to switch heads. When I stripped down the van motor I noticed it had a shallow chambered head. I am wondering:
* Was a chambered head normal for 711M van motors?
* If so, were they built with special pistons to go with the chambered head, or was the chamber used with the normal Escort herron pistons to reduce the compression ratio for the van motor? I am concerned that if I fit my flat head to this motor I might get the valves hitting the pistons.
Grateful for any help.
