Howdy,

Attached are images of a 711M 6015-BA crossflow block.

It has 2 small X's between the engine mount threads on the opp side.
The number between the XXXX's looks like 156 in inch tall raised .

engine no. ck40xc 922278. = Escort Mk2

Bored production line workers perhaps??

Well I know there are peoples out there that know what these are, but they are protecting their interests, I guess.

My understanding is these were produced locally, probably because OZ was running low on blocks, late in the MK2 production run.

I also understand they are probably better cast than the English units.
Therefore making them more desirable.

I am certain the formula ford chaps like them.


This is probably just like the OZ cast Cleveland V8 blocks.

Roger, I saw another of these only last week here in Adelaide, and I can only tell you what the guy it belonged to told me. He reckoned that they were very late production Australian blocks, and supposedly have heavier wall section where it matters. You may know him, - he worked for Quickco for a number of years.

I had heard of these before and his was the first I had seen 'in the metal' - I was curious to find out where the fabled 'four X' marks are located on the casting Naturally I checked my own blocks when I got home. One I know for sure came out of a 1979 Escort sedan, but neither have the four X's so I guess they are very late or even final production castings.

You're right about the formula guys - it's 'the block' they seek out. Another local identity has told me he has a blanket order for as many as he can find from one of the local formula ford engine builders. Hard to find nowadays he tells me.

XXXX blocks are late Australian cast blocks however they are not really any better in wall thickness or core shift than any other 711M block.

If you were fair dinkum about FF1600 engines you would be looking for the lightest blocks with an acceptable wall thickness not the heaviest ones.
