Hi George, sorry for the hijack Tim, I'd agree with Martin 100%, I have been running an L16 crank for several years in my twin cam and have the limiter set at 8600 which I nudge semi regularly. My engine builder will say too often. Usually try to change at around the 8200 mark but in tarmac rallying you often have to hold a gear between corners. Looking at in car rally video it shows that the engine spends most of its time between 6500 and 8000. I also used to run a four speed and at club days was on the limiter down the straights on most circuits. 4.7 diff doesnt give much top end. It has never been a problem. I know of a group n Lotus Cortina that used 9000 on occasions also without problems. Good rods are a necessity though along with good pistons, valves, buckets, springs, cams etc.

Thanks for telling me about your experiences, its reassured me that i shouldn't worry about the crank. I will set the limit to 8000rpm.

Just out of curiosity, what rods are you running?
